Tri-Cities Chamber Honours Mayor Richard Stewart’s 18 Years of Leadership

(TRI-CITIES) May 19, 2026 What was supposed to be our final Mayor’s Mingle with Richard Stewart quickly turned into something much more memorable — and much louder (thanks to the bagpipes).

The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce welcomed members, colleagues, friends, and family to what Mayor Stewart thought was a typical networking happy hour on May 14. Instead, the evening became a surprise retirement celebration recognizing his incredible 18 years of service as Mayor, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the City of Coquitlam.

“Mayor Richard Stewart has been an extraordinary partner to the Chamber and a true champion for the Tri-Cities business community,” said Jennifer. “His leadership over the past 18 years has helped shape Coquitlam into the vibrant, connected, and thriving city it is today. We are incredibly grateful for his dedication, accessibility, and genuine commitment to bringing people together. It was an honour to celebrate his remarkable legacy with the community.”

Guests gathered at the event ready to celebrate Richard’s legacy of compassion, community-building, and steady leadership. The moment he entered to the sound of a live piper was one the room will not soon forget. Safe to say, this was not your average Mayor’s Mingle.

Over the years, Mayor Stewart has been a tremendous supporter of the Chamber and the local business community, always making time to connect with members, answer tough questions, and champion initiatives that help Coquitlam grow and thrive. While the evening certainly included networking, laughter, and a few stories from the past 18 years, it was ultimately about gratitude.

The room was filled with appreciation from people across the community whose organizations, businesses, and lives have been positively impacted by Richard’s leadership and genuine care for the city he serves.

On behalf of the Chamber and the broader business community, thank you, Richard, for your years of dedication, partnership, and heart. Coquitlam is better because of it.
