(TRI-CITIES) May 19, 2026 The Tri-Cities business community gathered at The Vancouver Golf Club for an engaging and timely discussion on disaster preparedness, climate resilience, and emergency management at the Chamber’s breakfast event, When Disaster Hits: Is Your Organization Prepared?

With wildfires, floods, cyber threats, and infrastructure disruptions becoming increasingly common across British Columbia, the event sparked important conversations around how organizations can better prepare, respond, and recover in times of crisis.

“Bringing together leaders from business, government, and the community to discuss disaster preparedness and climate resilience is critical as we face increasingly complex challenges across our region,” said Jennifer McKinnon, CEO of the Chamber. “This event highlighted the power of collaboration, innovation, and proactive planning in building stronger, safer, and more resilient communities for the future.”

The room was highly engaged throughout the morning, with attendees asking thoughtful questions and sharing perspectives from across sectors. From business leaders and municipal representatives to community advocates and industry professionals, the event brought together a diverse audience united by a common goal: building stronger, more resilient communities.

A highlight of the event was the live demonstration of SkyScout AI, an innovative BCIT-developed technology using drone-based artificial intelligence to map wildfire risk before disasters occur. The presentation showcased how emerging technologies are transforming emergency management and creating new opportunities for proactive response planning.

The Chamber was also pleased to welcome new partners BC Hydro and ICBC to the conversation. Their participation added valuable perspectives on infrastructure resilience, operational readiness, and supporting communities during emergencies and recovery efforts. The collaborative nature of the panel reinforced the importance of cross-sector partnerships in strengthening climate preparedness across the region.

The event featured an outstanding lineup of speakers, including The Honourable Kelly Greene, Dr. Michal Aibin, Caleb Donald, Pedro Bilbao, and Jaci Edgeworth, moderated by Ben Peco.

The Chamber extends its thanks to all speakers, attendees, and partners who contributed to such a meaningful and forward-looking conversation. As the challenges facing our communities continue to evolve, events like this play an important role in ensuring businesses and organizations are informed, connected, and prepared for the future.
