Coquitlam, BC - On August 22, 2025, CEO Jennifer Mckinnon had a productive meeting with the Honourable Mike Farnworth, in his capacity both as MLA for Port Coquitlam and as Minister of Transportation.
We brought forward several important issues on behalf of our business community:
Fawcett On/Off Ramp Hours – We emphasized the need to open the Fawcett interchange for all hours to improve accessibility for the many businesses along United Boulevard. This change, should safety not be a limiting factor, could also help ease congestion in the Burnette corridor while supporting the success of major developments such as the Casino and Beedie’s Fraser Mills site. Strong infrastructure and planning will be key to maximizing the economic benefits these projects bring to our region.
Commercial Property Taxes – With rising costs continuing to strain businesses, we discussed the challenges of commercial property taxes and explored opportunities to better understand these pressures and work together on solutions.
Minister Farnworth was receptive and open to further discussion on all of these fronts. The Chamber looks forward to continuing this dialogue and advancing solutions that will strengthen the Tri-Cities business community and our region as a whole.
