Mingle with the Mayor: A Conversation with Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti

Port Moody (November 4, 2025)  The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce was proud to host another engaging Mingle with the Mayor, featuring Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti at Parkside Brewery on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

It was an evening of open dialogue, candid conversation, and community connection as Chamber members and residents had the opportunity to ask the tough questions that matter most — especially with a civic election on the horizon next year.

Key concerns raised during the discussion included traffic congestion, infrastructure development, and housing affordability — issues at the forefront for many in Port Moody. Mayor Lahti provided thoughtful and transparent insight on each topic, emphasizing the importance of balancing growth with livability.

One of the most discussed topics of the evening was the SD43 land proposed as potential park space. Mayor Lahti explained that, should the school district choose to build schools elsewhere, the City would welcome the chance to create much-needed green space in the Moody area. However, she also recognized that with the population expected to double by 2050, ensuring adequate educational facilities remains a top priority.

The conversation also touched on the Flavelle Lands redevelopment, the expansion of Rocky Point Park, and the value of Port Moody’s waterfront industries, such as Pacific Coast Terminals, which continue to play a vital role in the local economy through community contributions, employment, and significant property tax support.

We celebrated Mayor Lahti and the City for their community spirit shown at events like Car Free Day, noting how such initiatives highlight local business success and help foster a thriving, connected community.

“It’s critical when our mayors take the time to engage directly with the business community,” said Jennifer McKinnon, CEO of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce. “Events like Mingle with the Mayor offer residents and business owners the rare chance to ask their important questions, hear candid updates, and build relationships that strengthen our cities.”

True to her reputation for accessibility and community connection, Mayor Lahti made it a priority to meet and get to know everyone in the room, underscoring her commitment to staying closely connected with the people she serves.

The Chamber extends its thanks to Mayor Lahti and all who joined us for a thoughtful and productive evening focused on the future of Port Moody.
