Coquitlam BC – Recent press coverage of the impending Evergreen line may have left some people with the impression that the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is not in support of extending the line to Port Coquitlam.

The Chamber has worked very hard over the past two decades supporting and advocating for rapid transit to the Northeast sector and this work is very well documented. The Chamber’s position on this topic has been clear for quite some time. “The Chamber fully supports the Evergreen Line coming to the Tri Cities”, commented Chair Stephanie Booth. While the Chamber does not provide a position on either the technology employed or the route selection, “we do support additional stations including one in Port Coquitlam; however, our support of additional stations is conditional, providing it does not hamper or restrict the building of the Evergreen Line.”

Comments attributed to Ms. Booth in the local paper were taken out of context as she was merely quoting from a Ministry of Transportation document and not stating the position of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce.

“The Evergreen line will good for businesses in the Tri-Cities, which includes Port Coquitlam and needs to be built as soon as possible. I hope that the Council of Mayors and the Province will finalize the funding agreement as they promised at the Chamber Luncheon on Thursday September 23, 2010.”
