The Tri-Cities 10 x 10 Challenge presents:

Human Rights Toolkit for Small Business is a one day seminar intended to assist small businesses in recruiting and retaining employees from an increasingly diverse workforce while understanding and avoiding human rights complaints, which can be costly and time consuming.

Human Rights Toolkit for Small Business

The seminar will deal with topics such as:

  • Knowing the law around human rights, bullying and harassment
  • Developing and implementing a respectful workplace policy
  • Avoiding human rights complaints
  • Investigating complaints
  • Remedying informal complaints
  • Responding to formal human rights complaints
  • Understanding the grounds on which to get formal complaints dismissed
  • Navigating the Human Rights Tribunal process

The seminar will also cover the question of what constitutes a physical or mental disability for human rights purposes, along with the law on the duty to accommodate. This includes the duty to inquire and the duty to actively engage in efforts to accommodate.

This event is open to anyone who wants to attend, but the content is intended to assist small businesses (including nonprofit), small business managers, human resources personnel, workplace and business consultants.

Seminar includes refreshments, lunch and a tool-kit binder.
